Jose Mourinho: The Future of Manchester Utd.?Inter Tinkerman Claims “Special Clubs Need Special Managers”
After spending close to five years competing against Manchester United, Jose Mourinho now sets his sights on one day coaching the club he fights so arduously to overcome.
Manchester United is considered to be one of the best football clubs in the world (and with current Premiership, Champions League and FIFA Club World titles, who can argue that fact?) Still, there will come a time when even the most die-hard Manchester United fan must realize that their decorated coach, Sir Alex Ferguson cannot go on forever. Ferguson’s esteem and reputation within the club and abroad will surely be a difficult act to follow no matter who his successor is. But considered to be an outstanding manager in his own right, current FC Inter coach Jose Mourinho has been turning heads in football ever since his FC Porto side shocked the world by winning the 2003-2004 Champions League final against AS Monaco. Every Strong Team Needs a Stronger CoachFollowing that incredible victory, Mourinho let everyone know the secret to Porto’s success: a superb coach. He went on to establish a reputation as being an arrogant, albeit effective coach, which led to a more high-profiled position with Chelsea FC. Mourinho went on to win the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 Premiership titles with Chelsea, finishing ahead of rival clubs Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool each season. In 2007, after coming to a mutual end to his Chelsea FC contract, Mourinho headed to Italy and signed on with FC Inter for a substantial amount of money. He was also given a virtual “blank check” to secure the players needed to attain the Scudetto at the end of the season. “Arrogant Little Devil” Future Coach of the Red Devils? While the “Special One” earned his moniker during his time in England, the fans of Manchester United have always viewed Jose Mourinho as a threat to their club. Whether as coach of Chelsea competing for the Premiership title or as coach of Inter competing for the Champions League title, Mourinho is not the most well-received individual in the city of Manchester. Surprisingly, the British tabloid newspaper, The News of the World, now claim that Mourinho has recently expressed his desire to become coach of Manchester United towards the end of his career. Mourinho was quoted as saying, “If you want me to rule out ever being Manchester United manager I can’t. Special clubs need special managers so in theory, it could work, but nobody knows what the future is in football.” Mourinho admits that the time to make his move to Manchester will depend on Alex Ferguson. The always confident Inter coach believes that as long as Ferguson remains in good health and Manchester continues its winning ways, expect the tinkerman to stay at the club for some time.
