Three weeks of the 2009 Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Soccer season are complete, so it’s time to take an early look at how the projected top three teams are doing so far. Franklin Pierce UniversityThe Franklin Pierce Ravens began the season on a strong note, scoring seven goals each in games against Caldwell College and Molloy College, respectively. Senior Gabriela Demoner collected five goals total in those games, including a hat trick against Caldwell. The Ravens did falter in their next two games, falling to UMass-Lowell, 3-1, and Florida Southern, 2-1, in their home-opener. Franklin Pierce recently has gotten back on track, scoring five goals each against Le Moyne College and Southern New Hampshire, both games at home with Demoner scoring another hat trick against Southern New Hampshire. Demoner has been a force so far this year, scoring a team and conference-best 11 goals to go along with two assists. She leads the NE-10 with 24 points, as well. Sophomore Jocelyn Leon has seen the majority of the action in goal, starting four games and posting a 0.78 goals-against average and making 20 saves. Franklin Pierce currently sits in third-place in the Northeast-10 Conference at 2-1 and going on the road for four of their next five matches. The College of Saint RoseThe Golden Knights have thoughts of repeating last year’s success. They have begun the season to the tune of a 5-0 overall record, including 3-0 in the NE-10. Susan Cowan has started five games in net for the Golden Knights, allowing only one goal for a 0.31 GAA while posting a .889 save percentage. The defense has been tremendous for the team, allowing only 8 corner kicks while keeping opposing teams pinned down. Offensively the team has taken 29 corners and 70 shots. The Golden Knights are tied for first in the NE-10 with the Saint Anselm Hawks at 3-0. Merrimack CollegeThe Merrimack College Warriors have started the season strong as well, posting a 4-1-1 overall record so far.
