The end of the football season approaches. Wednesday’s Champions League Final in Athens between Liverpool and AC Milan will mark the end of the season.
As far as I’m concerned the season ended a week ago – Tottenham Hotspur’s final game – a win over Manchester City to claim fifth in the Premiership and UEFA Cup football next year.
‘We’re all going on a European tour!’ Well I made it to two of the home games – that was an achievement, although the Sevilla game was a big disappointment, two down after seven minutes, the dream shattered.
No football!! What can I do until the season starts again in August?
Since last August, there have been two matches nearly every week – League, Carling Cup, FA Cup and UEFA Cup games, even in the last week, they played three matches in six days.
There's the England internationals, but they're not the same as supporting your own team.
All summer and no football games – but there’s the speculation and rumour, that’s what keeps football alive.
On the message boards, there’s always someone ‘in the know’ (ITK) who’s heard some interesting information from a friend of a friend of someone who just happened to meet the manager when he was out shopping. We’re just about to sign a top European star. We wait and wait but it doesn’t happen, again!
Then there’s the media headlines – our star striker is going to sign for Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, insert whatever team seems appropriate – there’s no way he’ll stay at White Hart Lane now. Despair.
It’s going to be a long summer without football.
